Reverse-engineering cosmetics ingredient lists
BeautyBoostr wanted to reverse-engineer cosmetics formulations from public ingredient lists. We built a solution-tree system that ranks the most plausible recipes — and helped them secure their next funding round.

What we delivered
Ingredient reverse-engineering engine
Signal used
Order of ingredients on the product label
Outcome
Funding raised for next stage
The challenge
Cosmetics labels list ingredients but not proportions. The client wanted an algorithm that could infer the most plausible underlying formula — useful both for detecting low-quality products and for educating consumers.
The solution
We built a system that constructs a solution tree of every plausible combination of ingredients for a product, then ranks them using the placement of each ingredient in the label (since order correlates with concentration).
The outcome
A working ingredient reverse-engineering engine
Client secured funding for the next stage of product development
